Photosynthesis Lab
Materials
Condemned plant test tubes
Black paper iodine
Blue cellophane hot alcohol
tape petri dishes
Hypothesis
Control; (self explanatory)
Black covering: less starch- black covering inhibits photosynthesis
Blue covering: 2nd most starch- blue covering only allows certain wavelengths, inhibiting some photosynthesis
Procedure
1. Cover one leaf with black paper, making sure the paper is secured without letting sunlight in.
2. Cover another leaf in blue cellophane
3. Wait one day and then remove the two covered leaves and one more to be the contoll
4. Boil leaves in alcohol and then rinse
5. Place leaves in petri dish and treat with iodine
Data
Leaf starch production (rating out of 10)
controll..................10
black paper............8
blue cellophane......8.5
Conclusion
This lab was informative, but there were incidents where instructions might have been useful. developing an experiment ourselves is a useful skill, but some structure would prevent skewed results due to treating the leaves with iodine right after removing them from the alcohol. Collaboration was effective as always. Everyone did what they were supposed to and contributed to the group.
